Since the beginning of time, human beings have been characterized by their great ingenuity, first elaborating tools for their survival, in which according to the passage of time were able to supply the immediate necessities. From the moment the human race recognized its capabilities, there have been significant but still harmful inventions that led to a colossal deterioration and even a possible and permanent catastrophe all over the world.
Regardless of whether it is by the hand of man or nature, it is a fact that the world has been damaged remarkably.
Humanity has been in charge of having the power to change the state of the environment through alterations that have an increasing impact on a large scale. Due to the social and environmental issues, these problems have become highly common in the community, such as lead contamination, social determinants of health, and climatic and environmental problems raising monumentally and spontaneously every year. However, the medical field is working on finding different solutions for these situations.
According to Vinit Mehta, from his article “Types of Environmental Pollution and their Harmful Effect,” he states that environmental pollution occurs in different forms; air, water, soil, radioactive, noise, heat/ thermal and light, creating Toxic environmental pollution that affects more than 200 million people worldwide, according to Pure Earth, a non-profit environmental organization. In some of the world’s worst polluted places, babies are born with birth defects, children have lost 30 to 40 IQ points, and life expectancy may be as low as 45 years because of cancers and other diseases.
The protection of the environment is nothing more than maintaining the vision of an ideal environment, taking into account all the measures and proposals that must be made to conserve human life, as well as the life of the flora and fauna. According to Michael A. Berry, author of the article “Cleaning and the Environment,” Five basic methods can be employed to limit pollution to a desirable and safe level: source management, which includes source removal or modification; activity management; design intervention; dilution; and cleaning that includes housekeeping, maintenance and restoration. These steps can help the environment in a small ways, but if they’re used on a large scale they can create a monumental impact and change in the world and in nature. On the other hand, many hospitals and healthcare facilities have put in place how to change and improve in a safe way the medical field, by making it more ecological, helping to decrease and eradicate pollution. Joanne Finnegan, explains that “Many hospitals want to ‘go green’ and modify their energy consumption, waste disposal and chemical use to lessen their impact on the environment. Sustainability initiatives can help hospitals save millions.” In his article “5 ways hospitals can go green” encouraging the medical field to save lives, but also save the planet earth.
It is a fact that the world day by day deteriorates and is damaged more, to the degree of seeming an irreversible and irreparable situation, however, all of us as a fundamental part of society must be aware of taking care of the environment that surrounds us in which we develop every day of our lives for future generations, giving way to great inventions in medicine that will create a positive impact around the world. The human was in charge of creating damage that will last for centuries, but we can also be in charge of creating positive changes that will last for centuries more.
